Community Resource Library

This collection gathers the shared wisdom of The Future is You and Me’s co-founders and community so that others can continue to build on and benefit from our work.

There are resources for grant writing and hosting workshops for community, and links to our projects. We’ve also included a list of our alumni as both a directory and a document of the incredible young women and non-binary people that were a part of this project and community between 2016 and 2022.

These resources have not been edited or updated since they were first published or created, except to protect confidential and sensitive information. If you see something that should be changed to protect the well-being and safety of a community member, please contact Megan Lau at hello@meganlau.com.

We welcome and encourage you to use and distribute the tools shared here and to enjoy our projects and share them with attribution. You may not sell the work to others without express permission from The Future is You and Me.

Grant Writing

Hosting Workshops

The following resources reflect our commitment to safe spaces and hosting in thoughtful ways that honour relationships and relationship-building above all. The facilitation agenda is a framework only that can be a container for different groups and content. Our goal in sharing it is to support organizers to think about and plan for their participants’ needs.

Our Projects

The following projects came out of Megan and Kristin’s collaboration as The Future is You and Me and were made possible through Kristin’s grant writing.

  • MAGES Interactive (Marginalized Genders Accessing and Generating Evolving Systems)
    (2019 - 2020)
Founded by Future alumni Kyla Yin James, Chimedum Ohaegbu and Sunny Chen, MAGES offered a series of digital skills workshops to create works of interactive fiction.

  • The Future Forum Online
    (2020)
The Future Forum was meant to be a one-day symposium for women of colour artists and creatives to network, share knowledge, and scheme in March 2020. (See the event agenda and session details.) Although the event was cancelled due to COVID-19, we published contributions from the presenters and facilitators online.

  • Making Space
    (2021 - Ongoing)
Making Space is a virtual peer mentorship program focusing on the needs and wants of early-career BIPOC visual artists. Kristin provided mentorship and support to the co-founders, Kiona Callihoo Ligtvoet and Sanaa Humayun.

  • A Seat at the Table
    (2020-2021)
A Seat at the Table is a community research project that examines the barriers in the independent film sector in Metro Vancouver for people who are marginalized for their race and gender.
