Shine theory

When you meet a woman who is intimidatingly witty, stylish, beautiful, and professionally accomplished, befriend her. Surrounding yourself with the best people doesn’t make you look worse by comparison. It makes you better.

Thank you helping us make The Future is You and Me happen. Here, you'll find details about the program and your role in it as speakers.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at thefutureisyouandme@gmail.com.

The Basics.

Location, timing

The workshops take place at HiVE (128 W Hastings St., Suite #210).
The venue is on the second floor and a staff member will buzz you in.

The workshops start right at 11:00am each day. We'd love for you to arrive at 10:30am, so we can get caffeinated and set up the room. (A few of you have later arrival times.)  If you're running late or can't make it, please text Megan at 604-723-0842.

There will be a 30-minute lunch/snack break in the middle of the session. We'll have treats from Pure Bread and coffee from Matchstick, which you are welcome to enjoy.

As a reminder, you can find all the workshop dates and descriptions on this page. You are welcome to attend any of the sessions.

How to get ready.

  • Get to know our participants. Their bios can be found here.

  • There is a projector + screen available for your use. If you have a laptop presentation, please bring your own HDMI adapter (if you have one); the HiVE also has a few extras on hand.

  • On the first day, we will co-created a set of community guidelines to establish how to make a safe space for all of us, that also inspires creativity and learning. Read them here.

  • As a general rule: Share as much as you like, but respect your own boundaries and others'.

The reading list.

We're compiling a list of resources—including podcasts, magazines, websites, books, and blogs—about diversity, the arts, feminism, and leadership.
